The millrace

The water of the river Poschiavino was channeled into the millrace about 400 m north of the craft complex. The first section of the millrace acted as a sedimentation bassin for the sand ("sablunera"), testifying how—in the absence of appropriate machinery—the rural wits took advantage of the available natural resources. The spillway diverted swimming material back to the river and, together with the shutter, it allowed for a controlled amount of water to reach the last, suspended section of the millrace.
